Apache CNG

Natural gas is the fuel of the future, available today.

Apache CNG Tahoe in Fairfield TXCompressed natural gas (CNG) is a smart alternative to gasoline. It’s clean, abundant and American.

Clean. Natural gas is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel. Compressed natural gas (CNG) used in natural gas vehicles (NGVs) emits 20 percent less carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas), 70 percent less carbon monoxide, 89 percent less volatile organic compounds and 87 percent less nitrogen oxide than petroleum-fueled vehicles.

Abundant. Apache Corporation produced 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas from its operations in North America in 2009, contributing to the abundant supply available in the United States. The Potential Gas Committee’s 2009 report of the nation’s natural gas resources indicates that the U.S. possesses a total resource base of 1,836 trillion cubic feet. This massive resource base coupled with the United States’ ever increasing reserves gives America a 100-year supply based on current consumption levels.

American. Ninety-eight percent of the natural gas consumed in the United States is produced in North America. Switching from gasoline gasoline to natural gas could greatly reduce our dependence on foreign imports, thereby increasing national security and creating jobs for Americans.

The American Natural Gas Association (ANGA) states “Our country needs natural gas as a fuel and raw material that is readily available in North America. It is efficient and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while creating American jobs and supporting our economy.”

Natural gas is not only good for America; it’s good for your pocketbook, too.

Apache has begun converting its field vehicles to run on CNG and building CNG stations fueled from natural gas produced in our fields. It’s a step toward building the infrastructure needed to fuel America with natural gas.

Apache’s CNG-powered 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe helps spread the word about the benefits of switching to CNG. The cost of filling the tank is 30 percent less than the cost of gasoline, and the vehicle gets the same miles per gallon as its gasoline-powered counterpart.
